Hexham Hobble 2006

Hexham Hobble, 10.55am Sunday 3rd December – Mike and I sitting in the car heater on with the rain lashing down and winds buffeting the car, 5 minutes to go – here we go, within seconds we are wet through as we gather at the start line with about 80+ other runners. My mind wanders - I should be at home with a bacon sandwich reading about Sunderland’s win over Norwich in the papers. We are off – you guessed the rain and gale force winds did not abate through the 11 mile race, with sleet and hail at some points. Wet and muddy underfoot made the going tough. 8 DFR - Denise, Ken, Jim, Andy, Paul, Tim, Mike and I turned out.

We missed out on Hypothermia but came away with big smiles and Men’s Team Prize – Ken, Jim and Andy, Andy first 40 vet and Denise first vet 40; I think that is correct…. Tasty cakes and hot tea at the finish. Stu.

Congratulations Ali - 2006 British and English Championship Medallist

Ali with medals

Congratulations to Ali Raw who finished bronze medalist LV40 in both the British and English fell championships in 2006. A fantastic achievement, Ali also competed for the club with the senior men in the British fell relays finishing in 32nd place. We had the pleasure of watching Ali at Sedburgh, a really tough race where she finished 1st LV40 and 5th lady overall against very tough opposition. Well done Ali, good luck in 2007.

Tim's just des(s)erts...

Haven't heard too much mention of this but I was sent this email about Tim Makin's recent Marathon des Sables expedition. Any pictures Tim?

"Tim Makin has returned from successfully completing the Marathon Des Sables Ultra Endurance Race in Morocco, this event covers 151 miles and is staged over 7 days, with the longest stage being 77Km.

Tim was 198th out of a finishing field of 500+ runners and was an exceptional 33rd Brit home out of 214. This event even eclipses Tim's excellent 4th at last year's Lyke Wake 44-mile endurance race.

Check out the following websites for more info on the background to the MDS Event: darbaroud.com; saharamarathon.co.uk."

Everyone at DFR would like to echo the writer's congratulations.
