KIMM 2005

Well done to the DFR teams who competed in this year's KIMM held in the North-East Lakes. Mike, Willie, Jeanette, Steve, Karen, Patrick, Helen, Julia, Rob and Stu (apologies if we have missed anyone).

The event lived up to expectations with long courses covering the high ground of the High Street range and the bogs of Shap Fell with plenty of route choice. Weather came good with high winds, rain and hail stones coupled with the usual MM experience of sharing your weekend with 2000 other teams. KIMM Results; Pictures.

Well done ladies...

Well done to Alison Raw who was placed first lady in both the Pinchinthorpe Plod and the Saltergate Gallows in the Cleveland Winter Hill Series. Congratulations also to Denise Tunstall who was placed 3rd lady vet at Saltergate. We will endeavor to get a full ladies team at the next race in the series - the 3-Tops. Good luck to all the ladies participating in the KIMM this weekend.

DFR Team for Fell Relays

DFR have entered a team in the 'open' category of the FRA Relays which is at Alva in Scotland on Sunday 16th of October. We have done these events before: they are very well organised and are a good day/weekend away. Have a look at the Carnethy HRC website.

Teams consist of six runners (two individuals and two pairs). We would like to field the best team possible and would therefore like to encourage club members to offer their services! We already have the makings of a good team, but we are still short of a couple of runners/reserves. If you're up for it email Ray or visit the forum.

New Look Website for DFR

If you're a frequent visitor to this site you might notice a few changes. It's been a frantic battle to keep pace with the success and activities within the club over the past year and so this version - which we're sure will be by no means the last - hopes to improve the navigation within the site and make it more transparent to our users. Have we succeeded? Only time will tell. If you have any comments email the webmaster.

Alex takes silver at 2005 World Masters Mountain Running Championships

DFR's Alex Menarry took a fine second place at the World Masters Mountain Running Championships held at Keswick in the UK. Competing in the M70 class over a 9.5 km course, Alex finished just over 4 minutes behind Italian Bruno Baggia, limiting his losses with a typically strong downhill performance. At 72, Alex is clearly not finished yet and re-defines the meaning of the term 'endurance athlete'. Well done Alex! Congratulations also go to Alison Raw who took a sixth place in the Ladies W40 category. Proving that it was tight at the top Alison finished a single second behind Scotland's Hazel Dean - and you don't often see Alison involved in a sprint finish!

Ken konkers Klets!

Congratulations to our very own Ken Maynard who took the top spot in the super-tough Klets class for individual competitors at this year's Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon. Leaving brother Ray at home on this occasion Ken struck out for solo honours in spectacular style!
