Club Championships

General

Six open races in any one season are nominated to decide the Club Champion. They are chosen from the general fell running calendar. The aim is to have six races of varied length and terrain, both in County Durham and in other parts. The Championship Races will be nominated early in each year. This Championship is for DFR members only, with the age category of the runner not taken into account. There is a Ladies Championship (as from 2009) and a Men's Championship.

Members do not need to enter their names formally. The nominated races will be tracked by the webmaster to draw up the statistics required. At the end of the six races, the Champion will be declared and a presentation of "The Chairman's Shield" made formally and with acclamation.

The Rules

1. There shall be six races, of varied length and territory.
2. These races will be chosen by the Committee and published early enough in each year.
3. Points will be awarded according to the runner's position among DFR runners in that race.
4. First DFR runner home will receive 20 championship points, the second 19, and so on.
5. If there are more than 20 DFR runners in any race, the points will be increased to cover that number.
6. The DFR runner with the most points from their best four out of six races will be declared Club Champion.
7. If one race is a handicap, the actual run time will be used to give the position of the runner and hence the points awarded. This means that, even if a runner finishes last in the handicap race, she or he can still earn maximum points.
